The Aspen culture is truly one-of-a-kind! We’re a sixty-year established company with nearly 1,000 employees coast-to-coast, yet we offer the excitement and entrepreneurial spirit of a start-up, and the close-knit feel of a family company. Aspen employees all share some key traits – they’re passionate about their work, they take ownership in the company, and they have a positive, “Whatever It Takes” attitude.
Whether at the Home Office or on-site at our communities across the country, people always come first. Our relationships with one another are important. Our best ideas - the ones we implement throughout the country – come from employees working in the field and at the Home Office.
Aspen’s approach to the Management of our communities is hands-on. This means our entire Management and Operations Departments travel on a weekly basis to Aspen communities to work side-by-side with our District Managers, National Travelers and on-site teams. We don’t manage and lead by pouring over reports. Instead we spend time, listening to each other and working together. A hallmark of all property visits is a round-table and open discussion with employees to get their ideas and feedback. We’re a true team in every sense of the word. After fast-paced, interactive visits, teams head to dinner or to a fun outing together where we can catch up and connect personally, as well. Annually, we make it a priority to visit each and every region to host holiday parties and give gifts the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s been a tradition at Aspen and part of our culture for decades.
Our Home Office tenure is one of the best in the country! ‘Aspenites’ come and they stay for the long term. About 100 employees work from our West Springfield location to support operations at our communities across the country. We offer a fun, informal environment. Though everyone comes to work dressed casually, and takes the time to chat in the kitchen while grabbing a coffee or our famous Friday morning bagels, that friendly laid-back atmosphere is also backed by a focus and drive each employee has to do and be their best. And while we do have scheduled meetings now and again, we’re much more likely to pop into one another’s offices to catch up on the week, problem solve or brainstorm on an issue. Our Fun Committee keeps work, well … FUN! Frequent gatherings such as Chili Cook-offs, Food Trucks, Corn-hole tournaments, Cupcake Wars and holiday gatherings are just a few of the opportunities we have to spend time together and enjoy some social time at work.
Another core piece of our culture is promotion from within. Most new opportunities are filled with Aspen employees who are ready for the next challenge. We invest heavily in our Training Programs (Aspen University, Leasing All Stars & Management 101 are just a few of our hallmark programs) as well as the mentoring, growth and development of all employees in all roles and departments. We aspire to help all employees reach their full potential. It’s not uncommon for Make Ready Technicians to grow to become Foremen, Travelers to grow to become District Managers, or bookkeepers to get promoted to Department Head over time. We are proud of the fact that over 50% of the company is owned by employees!
A charitable philosophy is alive and well at Aspen. Members of the Home office and the teams on-site participate in various events and initiatives throughout the year to help support our local communities through charitable contributions as well as volunteerism as shown in some of the pictures featured here:
