Aspen is poised for continued, profitable growth. The company currently owns and manages a $1.6 billion dollar portfolio with nearly 17,000 total units. We seek out and acquire mismanaged or distressed communities in a range of approximately 125 - 500 units. Currently, Aspen operates in 16 states including California, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.

All properties are supported by our Massachusetts-based Home Office which houses the following departments: Accounting; Accounts Payable; Accounts Receivable; Payroll; Management; Operations; and Finance. The Staff Accountant position is responsible for daily, monthly and annual activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts, preparing financial statements and other corporate related activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with completion and review of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process including journal entries, financial statement preparation, and related analysis
  • Reconcile accounts and review reconciliations prepared by others
  • Work with third party lenders on escrow review and release
  • Assist with income tax return preparation
  • Administer real estate tax payments and appeals in all jurisdictions in conjunction with consultants
  • File regulatory required reporting in state and municipal jurisdictions as required
  • Participate in property acquisition and sales closing transactions
  • Support leadership with financial and administrative projects

Qualifications:

  • AS in Accounting or Finance with 2-5 years experience or BS in Accounting or Finance with 1-3 years experience
  • Strong attention to detail to properly record and review transactional data
  • Good analytical skills to interpret and evaluate financial reporting
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Motivated, proactive self starter
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office software, especially Excel
