Summertime has arrived! If you live in an apartment community, you likely have access to a pool with sparkling, blue waters calling your name. There’s truly no better way to beat the heat than spending a day lounging in the cooling waters! However, when the summer sun is scorching and the afternoon temperatures are rising, it’s important to stay safe and comfortable in order to make the most of your poolside experience.

SUNSCREEN!

Everyone knows that the golden rule of poolside survival is sunscreen! When enjoying the day at your apartment’s poolside, it’s important to remember to slather on the sunscreen generously and frequently! No one likes a sunburn – they are painful, unsightly, and can cause long-term damage to your skin. It’s best practice to apply your sunscreen about 30 minutes before heading out to the pool. Opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF for best results. Don’t let your fun in the sun distract you from remembering to reapply every 2 hours, especially after swimming! Making the protection of your skin your top priority will ultimately lead to a worry-free day.

Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!

When you’re emersed in the crystal-clear waters of your apartment community’s pool, sparkling under the sunlight, you can easily become dehydrated without even realizing it! Make sure to bring an ample supply of water and remember to sip throughout the day! If you know it’s going to be a long day at the pool, you may even want to consider other hydrating beverages that help replenish electrolytes, such as a sports drink or coconut water. While alcohol or coffee may be tempting, it’s best to try to avoid consuming these, as they can dehydrate you further. Don’t let heat exhaustion ruin your day!

Seek Shade & Take Breaks!

Of course, the refreshing blue expanse of your apartment community’s pool will be the main attraction of your pool day, but it’s crucial to give your body a break from direct sunlight. Many of our Aspen Square communities feature resort-style pools with ample umbrellas, pergolas, and cabanas in order to provide shaded areas for residents to take refuge from the sun, allowing them to take regular breaks and enjoy a full day of savoring the delight of the cool waters and poolside camaraderie.

Be Mindful of Pool Etiquette

Lastly, to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone at your apartment community's pool, it's important to practice good pool etiquette. Respect pool rules and guidelines set by your apartment management. Be mindful of others and maintain a reasonable noise level. Keep the pool area clean by disposing of trash properly, and always follow safety precautions, such as not running near the poolside. By being considerate and respectful, you contribute to creating a harmonious environment for all pool-goers.
